TECHNICAL FEATURES OF BLACK RHODIUM
CABLES
AND THE BENEFITS THAT YOU CAN ENJOY FROM
THEM High Quality Materials
Our wide experience of testing
many different metals indicates that higher grade materials can produce higher
quality soound. Put simply each different metal sounds different and, in
general, the most expensive metals sound the best. That is why we use
Palladium, a precious metal in the platinum group, in some of our most
expensive audio interconnects. Lower down the range we have traditionally used
silver plated copper for its clarity at middle and higher frequencies in cables
at selling prices where others use plain copper.
The UK manaufaurers of
the cables in the Black Rhodium range have been specially chosen for their use
of the highest quality (best sound and lowest dielectric loss) insulation
materials such as PTFE and silicone rubber.
Post
Curing
This is one of our special processes derived from specific
and critical applications in other industries where silicone rubber is chosen
for its extremely low smoke emissions. The application of post curing, a
heating process following manufacture, reduces further the very low toxic
content should a silicone rubber cable burn.in a fire. We have tested our
manufacturer's post curing process and find that it consistently improves the
sound qulaity of our cables, adding details and making the music sound less
'harsh' than an identical cable that has not been post cured. We think that
this this improvement is very worthwhile.
Low Microphony Engineering
Screened
coaxial cables can exhibit microphonic effects which add unwanted noise to the
signal being transmitted via the cable. This effect is very useful for
maintaining the security of airport fences, but its effect on audio is to
distort the sound. This distortion can be substantially reduced by placing a
semiconducting layer between the braided screen and the insulation of the inner
conductor. You can hear the difference quite easily by making a comparison
between our Rhythm and Prelude interconnects, although some part of the
difference may be due to the 50% larger cross section of the conductor wire in
Prelude. For further information, please read

Deep Cryogenic Treatment
Black Rhodium is a
very strong supporter of the benefits that Deep Cryogenic Treatment delivers in
improving the Depth, Clarity and Timing in music when a cable has been treated.
In tests carried out in two hifi shows, 89% of the people asked (over 100
sampled) could detect an improvement in sound quality, and descibe it on
paper. At the higher end of the Black Rhodium cable ranges, all cables are
DCT processed before being offered for sale to our customers. Deep Cryogenic
Treatment improves all areas of audio quality equally so that the actual change
in sound may appear small, but the enjoyment of listening to music is much
greater.
DCT++ The DCT++ process in based on the standard
audio DCT process, but has the additional processing before and after DCT in
which the cables is subjected to high temperatures. This is only possible on
bare metal wires and on cables with high temperature insulation such as
silicone rubber and PTFE. The improvement in sound quality from the DCT++
process is very convincing.
Crystal Sound
The Crystal
Sound process is an additional process that we have found to be very efective.
The effect of the Crystal Sound process is that a cable, however good, sounds
'thin' and lacking in 'body' when comared directly with the same cable that has
received the Crystal Sound process.
Rhodium Plating
Black Rhodium has sold cables with Rhodium plated connectors for many
years. Rhodium plating increases the clarity of he music and somehow makes some
types of music more exhilarating. Rhodium plating is particularly popular with
mains cables and Black Rhodium has recently introduced very high Rhodium plated
mains connectors and we plan to extend our mains cable range using this type of
connector..
